Media: Reggie Discusses Nintendo's Future

Reggie discusses the future of the Wii, what games fans can expect and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

In a video interview with IGN Reggie Fils-Aimes, President of Nintendo of America, comments on the Wii's recent sales decline, noting that the Wii was the first home console to sell over 7 million units in three consecutive years. He notes that while the Wii is declining all consoles do, although most do it sooner in their life span.

Mr. Fils-Aimes highlights The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword as one of the most important upcoming games for Nintendo because it is a "traditional game" with motion-based controls. He believes that this particular title highlights how important good quality gaming is with Nintendo, as opposed to their competitors.

The launch of the 3DS and Pokémon Black & White in the early part of the year is the reason that there doesn't appear to be any big Wii titles on the horizon according to Reggie Fils-Aimes. He claims that there are too many "big balls in the air" to try and juggle a few more but reassures fans that games other than Skyward Sword are on their way.

When pressed with information about the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series Mr. Fils-Aimes remains coy, stating that they have plans but he will not give clues about what those plans are at present but insists they will be different from the 25th anniversary of the Mario franchise.
