The Tetris series is synonymous with handheld consoles and the Nintendo 3DS is getting its own entry next month. Tetris Axis not only brings the classic gameplay loved by many but also incorporates the console's augmented reality, online and SpotPass features.

Tetris Axis features twenty different modes, including Marathon, Computer Battle, Fever, and Survival, and two of these make use of augmented reality. You can build up towers of blocks in the real world using the AR Marathon and AR Climber modes that are exclusive to Tetris Axis.

As well as this the title is geared towards multiplayer, with the ability for up to eight players to join in on local multiplayer modes such as VS Battle, VS Stage Racer and VS Shadow Wide or with download play modes such as Marathon with Everyone, Fever with Everyone, and VS Battle. In addition to all these a number of party modes provide a mix on the classic gameplay formula, such as 'Fit' in which you must squeeze blocks into a shape, 'Jigsaw' in which you must solve picture puzzles or import your own and 'Bombliss Plus' that requires you to blow up blocks.

Wi-Fi compatibility means that you can play against other players around the world and also receive new items for the Fever mode via SpotPass. Some new screenshots from Tetris Axis, due out on October 21st in Europe, can be viewed in the gallery.
