Media: The Last Story's Knights & Mercenaries

Your first look at two rival classes in Mistwalker's upcoming Wii epic...

Another week goes by, and once again, the website for Nintendo and Mistwalker's The Last Story sees an update.

The latest update brings new concept art and info on two of the main classes of humans in the game's world - Knights and Mercenaries.

Mercenaries are seen as scrappers; neanderthals of society, if you will.

The main characters you'll be controlling in The Last Story are Mercenaries. They fight a lot, but have become stigmatised by society as the underclass - always scrapping and treated as disposable units of war. However, in reality, the Mercenaries you'll come across in the game have known the loss of loved ones, having their villages burned down and their possessions stolen. They live with great sadness and strive to become Knights to acquire the 'Extreme Power' to protect those they love.

We woukdn't mess with the Knights. This chap would have your eye out.

Knights, on the other hand, enjoy life at the top echelon of the stratum of society, mastering their skills and being respected by the people as 'symbols of authority' and 'friends of justice'. We don't think it's too hard to predict an undercurrent of envious tension between Knights and Mercenaries as the game unfolds.

The concept art is gorgeous enough, sure, but we want to see real screenies!

The Last Story is due out in Japan this year. Expect the trickle of information to continue in the coming weeks...
