Miiverse and StreetPass not Switching to Nintendo's new console

Nintendo of America has stated that the Nintendo Switch will feature neither the Wii U/3DS social network Miiverse nor the 3DS' StreetPass functionality.

Eagle-eyed viewers of this morning's presentation noticed a lack of Miiverse in the brief glimpse of the home screen, but now it seems Nintendo has confirmed it won't be taking the feature, or StreetPass, forward.

Speaking to GamesBeat, Nintendo of America's Assistant Manager of Public Relations David Young confirmed that neither feature would be included in the Nintendo Switch.

Mr. Young chalked the lack of StreetPass up to the fact Nintendo is viewing the Switch as a home console, in spite of its portability, and thus it would not make use of StreetPass' functionality that finds and exhanges data with nearby players.

When discussing Miiverse he stated "I can answer that we’re not going to be using Miiverse for Nintendo Switch" and instead Nintendo will use existing social media, although he did not specify which.

Unfortunately these two features have been very popular with Nintendo fans, providing very unique and very Nintendo-esque experiences, but it seems they're not moving forward with Nintendo.
