Miiverse and sytem updates teased

Iwata opened the Wii U Nintendo Direct by mulling over Miiverse and speaking of the success of the service so far. He spoke about how already it is bringing people together and used an example where the developers of Trine 2 spoke directly to fans via Miiverse.

Special characters are beginning to appear in Miiverse, characters with a green tick at the left hand side of their avatars. This allows developers and other people to be identified, much in the same was as the blue tick seen on celebrity Twitter accounts. People with green ticks will be allowed to post external links to Miiverse, such as YouTube videos.

Iwata stated that many more features are on the way to Miiverse though, to make it an even more enjoyable experience. He noted that, as more and more Wii U owners start using Miiverse, it's getting harder to see specific posts. Iwata hopes to address that with the addition of an improved search function, so you can search for specific posts or just refine your search in general.

He acknowledged that even with these new features, it may be hard to keep up to date with all the activity on Miiverse, which is why he announced officially that miiverse is on the way to mobile devices. Miiverse should be available in browser form on smart phones in the next few months but he assured that an improved version, in the form of a downloadable app, will be available at some point.

Finally, specific games will allow you to create certain groups on Miiverse. The first game to do this will be Wii Fit U. In Wii Fit U you'll be able to create personal chat rooms. The creator will be given a code, this code can be put into Miiverse by other users and then they will all be connected in a private chat room. This will allow them to post updates within their specific cirlce of friends, and in the example of Wii Fit U, allow you all to keep up to date with each others progress in the title, such as how much weight you have each lost in a certain week.

It's not just Miiverse that is getting improved though, as the Wii U itself is set to imrpove as a whole. Two new system updates are on the way, one in Spring and one in Summer. The Spring update will usher in the new Wii U Virtual Console whilst the summer update is set to improve many aspects of the Wii U.

Iwata noted that many people were not happy with the loading times between software on Wii U and that's one of things that will be greatly improved in these updates.
