Minecraft gets cross-play multiplayer on Switch

We're still a whole day away from Nintendo's E3 event but news has already started flowing in, this time from the Microsoft press event.

You'll now be able to play Minecraft across different systems, including Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, meaning that yes, a Super Mario and Banjo skin can now come into contact with each other!

Minecraft allows you to explore, create and live in a virtual world so naturally it's a much better experience with friends. Whilst you can already enjoy it online with other Switch owners, a future update will also allow you to play with your Xbox One, Android, Windows 10, Pocket Edition, iOS and VR Minecraft buddies!

The current versions of Minecraft are currently being updated to support the 'Bedrock Engine' which is what will allow play across consoles. Whilst most current consoles and PC will be supported, it seems that PlayStation and older systems including WiiU will not get this feature.

The new Bedrock Engine will up the player count from a maximum of 5 to 8, allow bigger servers and boasts infinite worlds (previous worlds you have will be expanded).

Take a look at the new trailer below, unifying the many different devices.
