More amiibo figures and compatible games confirmed

It wouldn't be a Nintendo Direct without amiibo, and sure enough, two new sets of the NFC-powered figurines were revealed today.

The first set, arriving on March 20th, is dubbed the Super Mario Bros. line, features Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser, and Toad. What's that, you cry? All of these, save for Toad, already have their own amiibo figures?! Quite true, but these ones feature different designs from the existing figures, which are in what is now known as the Super Smash Bros. line.

The new Mario figure will have exactly the same functionality as the current Mario figure, and be compatible with all the same games (and the same goes for the Luigi, Peach, etc.). It's just a different design. One for the collectiphiles, we think.

The Toad amiibo is brand new, though, and the little fella will be compatible with the recently released gem Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Use him with the game to unlock a brand new hide-and-seek mode.

On top of that, six more Super Smash Bros. figures were revealed. Robin, Lucina, Wario, Charizard, Ness, and Pac-Man join the family on April 24th. Robin and Lucina, of course, will join Ike and Marth as the Fire Emblem characters with amiibo representation. They'll all be compatible with Intelligent Systems's forthcoming action-strategy title Codename STEAM. Use them with the game to play as them!
