It was already assumed by most that new characters would appear in the next Smash Bros. but it seems that some gamers were worried after Sakurai's claims that he plans to "narrow down" the roster for the new title.

Luckily though, even if the amount of characters stays the same, we will be seeing some new faces. In a recent developers conference, Sakurai stated that "It's fun making new skills for new characters."

Sakurai also stated in June that he'd enjoy bringing back some old characters, possibly in the same way he brought back the Ice Climbers for Melee and Pit for Brawl.
