New Fire Emblem trailer

Atlus aren't the only studio to have their hands busy with a new Fire Emblem, as Intelligent Systems preps the next mainline game in the series.

Following the hugely successful Fire Emblem Awakening, the next title is again coming to Nintendo 3DS, and looks to shake things up all over again.

As a first for the series, the avatar that you create will not simply serve as a supporting character, but will rather be the main character of the quest. This serves a purpose, as the structure of the game will allow you to choose between two opposing paths of the story.

The 'lighter' path will see you ally with Hoshido - home of your bloodline and a kingdom that fights for peace. Alternatively, you can fight with your adoptive Nohr kingdom - uncompromising in their pursuit of glory.

Here's a brand new trailer.

In Japan, the game is called Fire Emblem If, and will intriguingly launch as two separate games, with each offering one of the separate story paths. The 'other' campaign will be available as downloadable content. However, it should be said that no such launch plan has been mooted for the western release, so it could just release as one game.

The game is scheduled to launch in the west in 2016.
