Mario Kart for Switch 2

New Mario Kart shown of for Switch 2

The Switch 2 reveal gave us a tease for the next Mario Kart game, currently unnamed. While very little information has been revealed about it there are a few tidbits that we can speculate based on the footage shown off in the Switch 2 first-look trailer.

1. How Many Players Does Mario Kart for Switch 2 Support?

If you pause the trailer at the right time, you can see up to 18 racers at once. However, the starting track shows 24 starting sports, suggesting that the game does support that amount of players. The track itself is notably wide to support this amount of players.

2. Is Mario Kart for Switch 2 Open World?

On top of the vastness of the level, the short look we get at the Mario Bros. Circuit track in Mario Kart for Switch 2 has some interesting elements, such as the track veering off from a main road, and lots of side roads splittng off. While this could just be the style of track Nintendo are going for in this new Mario Kart, it could also hint at other thigns. Track variations is common in racing games, however there's a sense of "openess" in the reveal that could be hinting that the game will have open world elements.

3. How do items work in Mario Kart for Switch 2?

One big element of Mario Kart games are items, but 24 going off at one would be far too chaotic. There's also a notable lack of them in the trailer, with only one thing that looks like a powerup slightly off a section of track in Yoshi's burger joint.

Have you noticed anything interesting in this brief footage?
