The latest edition of US mag Nintendo Power (via Cubed3) has revealed that a new game in the cult Shantae series is heading to Nintendo 3DS eShop.

The game is titled Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and is a follow-up to the critically-acclaimed DSiWare platformer Shantae: Risky's Revenge. It will reportedly feature a lengthy campaign, as well as a greater emphasis on exploration.

The news comes after it was understood studio WayForward Technologies were working to bring the Shantae series to Wii U.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is currently slated for a 2013 release.

Meanwhile, Risky's Revenge can still be downloaded on both the DSiWare store and the 3DS eShop.
