News: 10 Million Pokémon Traded Via Wi-Fi

Let me show you my Pokémans.
Whilst Europeans are still waiting for their fix of the little pocket monsters, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the DS have been available in Japan since 2006 and in the USA since April. After selling through over one million copies in five days of being on shop shelves, the two DS games were quite obviously a hit. Nintendo have made the Wi-Fi Pokémon trading figures official now, however, and it really does show how far those crazy Americans and Japanese are willing to go to catch 'em all.
In total, 10 million Pokémon have been traded over Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection in Japan and America alone. 500,000 of those critters were traded in Japan, seemingly leaving the other nine and a half million down to the USA. This is an amazing feat, and it certainly shows how far games have developed since the days of gathering friends together and trading Pokémon via messy link-cables. The ability to trade Pokémon with not only people near you (via local wireless), but with people all over the world through the power of the Internet is a huge step forward for the Pokémon series.
Pokéfans in the UK and Europe will have to wait a few weeks to become the very best (like no one ever was), but at least we're getting it, right? Watch out for Diamond and Pearl on July 27th. You know it's your destiny.
