Nintendo passes a milestone - with 100 million DS' now officially shipped worldwide.

Nintendo today announced that its popular handheld Nintendo DS has reached the golden 100,000,000 mark worldwide.

The system - renowned for its ability to bring anyone onto the world of gaming - has smashed nearly every sales record going since its release four years ago (for Europe). These figures accumulate Nintendo DS, DS Lite and DSi units shipped to retailers and distributors. The current highest-selling console is PS2, which has shipped around 140 million units worldwide in 8 years. It looks like DS is well on track to pass this figure.

Perhaps this is a good time for us all to reflect. With the perfect example of a "pick up and play" approach and literally hundreds of great games on the shelf, is DS the best console Nintendo has turned out?
