Giles Goddard, a developer credited with classic titles such as Super Mario 64, Star Fox and 1080 Snowboarding, has confirmed that he is working on a new WiiWare title.
Vitei, spearheaded by CEO Giles Goddard, are a Japanese developer who work very closely with Nintendo on large-scale projects such as Super Mario 64, 1080 Snowboarding and Theta (a DS puzzle game released exclusively in Japan).
Speaking to Cubed, Mr. Giles Goddard confirmed that his team are currently working on a WiiWare puzzle title which will utilise the pressure-sensitive Balance Board. Here's an excerpt from part of the interview with Vitei's CEO...
C: With Wii Fit taking Japan by storm at the moment and more Balance Boards now in Japanese homes than PlayStation 3 consoles, have you given any thought to creative ways your team could make use of the Wii peripheral in the future?
Giles Goddard: Our current game uses the Balance Board actually, and it's due out in September on WiiWare. So yes, much like Theta we came up with several prototypes of games and picked one that we thought was the most uniquely suited to the interface. The interesting thing is that the games you would think would work well with the Balance Board actually don't. So it should be interesting to see what kind of stuff gets made for it.
No other details have been confirmed so far apart from the fact that the title is being created for Nintendo for a September release, but this is now the second puzzle title (in addition to Tetris Party) on WiiWare which features the innovative peripheral. Has Wii Fit unknowingly revolutionised the puzzle genre?
