News: 3DS Continues Strong Sales in Japan

The Nintendo 3DS still manages to sell 100,000 units in Japan during it's second post-price drop week.

Following the price cut in all territories the Nintendo 3DS saw strong sales. However in order to be deemed a successful move the console really must continue to push units and outdo its performance prior to the price drop. Thankfully this is the case in Japan so far.

In the first week following the price cut sales of the console reached 215,000 units in Japan according to Enterbrain. Media Create suggest it only reached 196,077 units that week and in the following week, from August 15th through to August 21st, it sold 105,639 units. While the numbers are down it should come as no surprise, but thankfully they are still forth highest weekly sales the console has seen so far. The 3DS also sold just shy of 65,000 more units than its nearest competitor, the PSP.

Nintendo also enjoyed continued success in the software charts according to Andriasang. Featured in the top twenty were recent tiles such as Everyone's Rhythm Heaven, Atsumete! Kirby (Kirby Mass Attack) and Super Pokémon Rumble as well as older 3DS games The Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of time 3D and nintendogs + cats.
