News: 3DS' Other Augmented Reality Cards

The final five Augmented Reality cards have been unveiled and they feature some familiar faces.

Since the 3DS' unveiling at E3 not much has been said about the console's Augmented Reality feature. In publicity photos and at demoing events the only card shown is the question mark block one, even though Nintendo announced six would be included with the 3DS.

iainleeUK retailer GAME have got their hands on the retail version of the console and finally solved the mystery of the Augmented Reality cards, while simultaneously creating a new mystery. The cards, which can be seen on the left, feature different Nintendo characters on them. However, we still don't know what they do exactly. The question block card features a target shooting game so it is anybody's guess as to what the others will contain.

The 3DS is due to launch in Japan at the end of the month so it won't be long before we know exactly what they do. Stay tuned to the site for more information.

Update

Some new details about these cards and what they do have emerged. According to one NeoGAF forum member the question mark block card launches the AR program and you are given six options for six games. One of these places Miis in the real world while the character cards places those characters in the real world.

Unfortunately the characters are static, although you can change their poses with the face buttons, and you move yourself to have a look at them from different angles. You can also take photographs of them. When the characters first appear they play sound effects from their games.

The same user also states that there is a billiards style game in which the landscape is warped and you must shoot the ball, using the A button, to reach a target.

He indicates that the remaining games may need to be unlocked during gameplay so we'll have to wait for information about those.
