News: 5 Million Wii Consoles In Japan

Nintendo's main player passes the 5 million mark in The Land Of The Rising Sun.

Although you would have to have been either trapped in a cabinet or in the jungle in Borneo for the last two years to miss it, the concept that the Japanese love the Wii can no longer be escaped. The reason for this is that it has passed yet another milestone, this time the 5 million-shaped one, which, for those of you taking notes, means that one in every twenty four Japanese citizens owns a Wii. For less than a quarter of the console generation's estimated life span, that is unarguably very good going by the Big N.

With a strong year of Wii titles ahead of us, including Super Smash Brothers Brawl in a matter of weeks and No More Heroes on Japanese shelves now, this latest achievement could very well look like a speck in the rear-view mirror this time next year. For now, stay tuned to N-Europe for all the latest on just how ridiculously well the Wii is doing.
