News: 800,000 Wiis Sold Over Thanksgiving

Christmas bonuses all round at Nintendo this year, as America goes Wii crazy...

Over in America (where your faithful reporter happens to be right at this very moment), the folks like to indulge in a turkey fest named Thanksgiving. People hang out with their families, a lot of stuff gets eaten, and a huge amount of stuff gets bought.

Traditionally the busiest week for retail all year, American shoppers snapped up a whopping 800,000 Wii consoles during the week of November 24-30. Last year Nintendo sold 350,000. Says Nintendo President Satoru Iwata:

"When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list. Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list."

Christmas has come early for Nintendo it seems, and all the lucky guys and girls getting a Wii for Chrimbo too of course!
