News: A Zelda Timeline Does Exist

Zelda fans have long debated about what the Zelda timeline is. Apparently Nintendo has an official one but will not reveal it.

The Zelda series features a number of titles all revolving around Link and many fans have debated for years about the order of the timeline, or even the existence of a timeline in the first place. Zelda Dungeon has spoken to Dan Owsen, a former Nintendo of America employee who had a large role in the translation of early Zelda titles, about this very issue.

The interviewer mentioned to Mr. Owsen that comments he made over a decade ago are still used to argue over the exact timeline and he responded by noting that Nintendo of America wanted to release an official timeline, to help clear up the confusion and speculation, but the Japanese office didn't want to.

According to Mr. Owsen Nintendo do have a timeline but NCL believe it would take away one of the most important elements of the Zelda franchise - placing the power in the player's hands. Nintendo has refused to give Link a voice so that players can relate to him, because a voice would eliminate the attachment silence brings, and it seems they are using this reason as well for the timeline issue.

"There are a lot of connections between the games, but they do have a timeline that has continuity. It's up to the player to place all the pieces together...Part of what makes the series so special is the legend that spans across the series and they wanted to preserve that in the players' vision."
