News: Acclaims status

Acclaim yesterday announced the financial results for the second quarter of its fiscal year 2002 and plans for the coming fiscal year.

The company reported a 75% increase in Net revenues over the same period for the previous year. The publisher attributed the strong climb to the successful launch of acclaimed updates as All-Star Baseball 2003 for all the next-gen consoles.

"Our second quarter simultaneous launch of All-Star Baseball 2003 across all platforms, underscored our commitment to creating great products on schedule, which appeal to the increasing mass-market consumer audience," said the company's chief executive officer Greg Fischbach. "In its first four weeks at retail, All-Star Baseball 2003 has quickly become the #1 baseball videogame of the season."

Acclaim believes both Turok Evolution and Aggressive Inline will be big successses. Fischbach had this to say: "We are very excited by our third and fourth quarter releases, including the eagerly anticipated launches of Aggressive Inline and Turok: Evolution, both of which are poised to set benchmarks in their respective genres. Followed by the launches of Vexx and Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3 during the first quarter of fiscal year 2003, we believe that Acclaim will have a very strong and diverse holiday lineup that will be well represented across all gaming systems."

Going into its fiscal 2003 year, Acclaim said it plans to release 14 GameCube titles, compared to 17 PS2 titles and 18 Xbox titles. Acclaim plan to show off playable versions of Turok Evolution, Vexx, Aggressive Inline and Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3 for Gamecube at this years big E3 show.
