News: Activision Developing Revo Launch Title

Developers Activision reveal dissapointing earnings, but say they have a title in the works for Revolution's launch...

Due in part to lacklustre sales for wild west adventure game GUN, Activision execs yesterday announced disappointing earnings for the Christmas and New Year period, and held a conference call to lay out the company's plans for the future.

During the next financial year (April 2006 to March 2007) Activision plans to release five PSP titles and four Xbox 360 titles. Three PlayStation 3 launch titles and one Revolution launch title will also be launched during that period. The company didn't go into detail on the launch titles, but it's probable they will be 'safe' games, based on well-known liscences.

It is a pity, as GUN saw Activision taking a real chance on a new IP and a development studio unused to developing that type of game. Though due to mixed reviews and poor customer sales, it seems Activision will be taking a step back to relying on tried-and-tested franchises we've already played - Call of Duty and Tony Hawk.

Looking further to the future, the April 2007 - March 2008 financial year will be populated by tie-ins with upcoming threequels Shrek 3 and Spider-Man 3, as well as more titles based on the Tony Hawk and X-Men properties. Will they appear on Revolution? Only time will tell.
