News: Activision Expose Customers To Spammers

Customers on the waiting list to have their Guitar Hero III discs replaced may have to face another problem...

When Guitar Hero III was released last year, many customers who had purchased the Wii version discovered that the game only outputs sound in mono (not even stereo), despite Activision having previously advertised the game's compatibility with Dolby Pro Logic II sound systems. Activision have since announced plans to replace all discs with brand new, sound glitch-free copies.

Activision set up a mailing list for people wishing to have new copies of the game sent out towards the end of last year, and everyone on that list recently received an email regarding the status of the replacement process. The email, however, contained the email address of everyone else on the mailing list. One such email was dispatched to 860 recipients.

This industrial-sized cock up may result in Activision facing several lawsuits, not to mention several hundred angry customers being exposed to spammers.
