News: Activision Never Charging for Online

Analyst Pachter recently suggested Activision were going to charge for online gaming but CEO Eric Hirshberg has firmly denied this idea.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been extremely successful since it launched a few weeks ago, so successful in fact it made industry analyst Michael Pachter state that an online subscription is surely on route.

Speaking to Industry Gamers Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg refuted this suggestion. Mr. Hirshberg makes the bold claim that Activision will "never, ever charge for the multiplayer."

"Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no. The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience and we'll never charge for that. It's not going to be something we'll attempt to monetize; it's part of the package."
