Amazon are looking to replicate the American post-Thanksgiving spending-spree known as "Black Friday" in the UK.
Similar to the British Boxing Day, in which retailers slash their prices and open their doors to people who apparently can't live without shopping for two days in a row, the American post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" is a time when shops are rampaged by bargain-happy customers.
The 'holiday' is usually one of the retail industry's most lucrative as many shoppers get their Christmas bargains. Last year $10 billion was spent by American shoppers on "Black Friday" alone.
Amazon UK are hoping to replicate this success this year. Starting November 22nd they will run five days of discounted offers, many of which are set to include video games.
“For many years, shoppers in the US have enjoyed massive savings on great products as a result of the ‘Black Friday’ phenomenon. Amazon is always looking to offer exceptional value for money, especially in the run up to Christmas, and will replicate that activity for the benefit of all customers here in the UK. There will be some fantastic savings on must-have items.”- Brian McBride, Managing Director, Amazon.co.uk Ltd.
Amazon are set to include a series of 'Lightning Deals' whereby certain discounts will be available for a limited time. While specific details of the deals will not be announced they have stated that gamers can expect 60% off Nintendo Wii consoles along with other deals such as 60% off Xbox 360s and discounts on camcorders, jewellery and much more.
