News: American Handheld Figures For May

We've got the American sales figures for the DS, PSP and GBA for the month of May. The winner may suprise you...

In the handheld console war, things are hotting up. In Japan, the DS can be seen to be reguarly beating the PSP. In America, on the other hand, the tables are turned.

Sony have said that during May, 250,000 units of the PSP were sold. Compare that to Nintendo's 57,000 units of the DS during the same month, and there really is no competition. What is suprising though, is the GBA sales figure. At 223,000 units for the month of May, it is still selling very well considering the DS is now on the market.

Combined sales of the DS and GBA gave Nintendo a 30,000 unit lead over Sony in the handheld market. This lead may well increase as Nintendo has recently made moves to sell more DS systems by bundling in Super Mario 64 DS for free, and launching the new "Electric Blue" system colour.
