The Wii has had its price dropped in America, ahead of Nintendo's rumoured price drop next month.
In the build up to E3 the industry is always rife with speculation and rumours and two Nintendo rumours have been particularly persistent: the Wii will be cut in price and its successor will be announced. Now one of those rumours has come true to some extent.
While many speculated that the Wii would be dropped in price to $150 in May American retailers have taken it upon themselves to do it anyway. Best Buy was the first retailer to drop the price and now GameStop, Amazon and Target have also dropped their prices.
American gamers can now pick up the Wii for $170 from the aforementioned retailers, which would be around 120/104. If the official RRP does drop to $150 in May, as has been speculated, this would mean the Wii would retail in America for 105/92.
UK retailers Amazon and GAME recently began offering the black Wii SKU, which includes Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, for 99.98 but whether or not a general price drop will take place remains to be seen.
