Eiji Aonuma hints that a 3DS remake of Majora's Mask is not impossible.
With the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D many people have been enjoying experiencing the N64 classic again on the 3DS. However, Ocarina of Time was not the only N64 Zelda title and now that Ocarina of Time 3D has been released fans are turning their attention to The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
While speaking to Eiji Aonuma the magazine Nintendo Power asked about the possibility of a 3DS version of Majora's Mask. Mr. Aonuma asks if they would like to play it and upon hearing a positive response he remarks that Ocarina of Time 3D came to be because fans pleaded for it so the same is possible for Majoria's Mask:
"It's been 13 years since Ocarina of Time was originally released, and one of the big things that we made this remake possible was that there was an outpour of emotions from people who said they would like to see this game done. We said we could do it in 3D, so we did. I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamour from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask, it wouldn't be an utter impossibility."
Eiji Aonuma continues to state that a handheld could in fact be perfect for Majora's Mask. Given that the game had a three day time limit he proposes that the very pick-up-and-play nature of the 3DS may make it more suitable for such a game.
"Thinking on it now, having a handheld Majora's Mask where you could kind of just set things down on your own time close it, set it aside and come back to it later might be a game play element some fans will actually take to and might really appreciate. Especially considering how you really had to rush through the original game, in a sense."
It would seem that if enough noise is made about a 3DS remake of Majora's Mask Nintendo may listen. Let us know if you'd like the game in the comments section below.
