News: Argos drops the GameCube

Another high street store has dropped the GameCube it seems.

I was in the city today and remembered that the new Argos catalogue has just come out. So i was a bit curious and thought I'd check their prices on GameCube software and accssories. After fliping back and forth to find the console section I finally found it.

First only one page for the GBA, then four pages for the PS2 followed by two pages of dancemats and driving wheels. Then one page for the PSone and finally three pages for the Xbox. I then turned the page expecting to find GameCube but it was not there.

This now means the GameCube is no longer being sold by Curry's, Comet, Dixons and now Argos. Sure some would think "So what?" but it does seem that even in actual game stores that the GameCube area is becoming less and less. And with the summer about half way through and the Christmas season approaching many people buying a new console will go to places such as Argos and now GameCube may not not even come into considderation for them.

I know it's early but could this see a poor Christmas season for the GameCube and/or maybe a big downturn in console in general?

Is there someone to blame for this? These shops have dropped the GameCube on poor sales, poor sales possibly caused by poor advertising maybe?
NoE can be rest assured though that they should sell some GBA/SP's now that Pokemon is out but maybe more effort on GameCube PR should be high priority, Pokemon would sell like hot cakes even without adverts, it seems the Cube won't.

UPDATE: Argos Talk!

I have just contacted Argos and they have given us the following statement:

"Due to poor sales of the Nintendo Gamecube we have be forced to withdraw it from our catalogue. The Nintendo Gamecube may be added to our products in the near future but for now it is not for sale. Our other stores i.e. Dixons will continue to sell the Nintendo Gamecube. I hope this does not stop you shopping at Argos."
