News: BAFTA Games Awards - Our Predictions

This Friday sees the bright stars of the gaming world take to the stage at the 2010 BAFTA Video Games Awards. Watch online and read our predictions...

This Friday 19th March brings the BAFTA Video Games Awards 2010, a ceremony at which the cream of console and PC programmers, artists, designers and directors will be awarded for their work on this year's top titles.

This year will also see the awarding of Academy Fellow status to Nintendo's celebrated games designer Shigeru Miyamoto, legendary for his work on classic franchises such as Donkey Kong, Mario, Pikmin, Star Fox, F-Zero, and countless others.

The awards kick off at 8.45pm GMT this Friday, and the whole ceremony will be streamed online at bafta.org/awards/video-games

The full list of nominees is available on the BAFTA site, but to summarise what Nintendo are up for, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is nominated in the Gameplay category and (along with Wii Sports Resort) is also up for the Family & Social award as well.

In the Handheld category, both Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Professor Layton and Pandora's Box are nominated, along with Scribblenauts too. Meanwhile in the Sports award, Wii Sports Resort is up against Wii Fit Plus, in a category that also sports (ha, see what we did there?) EA's FIFA '10.

Finally, in the GAME Award of 2009 category, Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Wii Sports Resort are nominated, but overall the category and indeed the entire ceremony is mostly focused on non-Nintendo titles - notably Assassin's Creed II, Batman Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
