News: Brand New Assassin's Creed Title for 2012

Could it be the title supposedly heading to Wii U?

French publisher Ubisoft held its Q2 earnings conference shortly ago, and it seems CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that a brand new Assassin's Creed title would be released next year.

Unlike the last couple of HD releases, the next game will be a "great full-fledged" sequel - virtually confirming it to be Assassin's Creed III. However, Guillemot stated that information regarding the new game would not be revealed for a few more months.

Why this should interest Nintendo enthusiasts is due to comments made by Guillemot back in July. It is common knowledge that Ubisoft gave a rather uninformative confirmation of an Assassin's Creed title for Wii U, but a month later, the CEO confirmed that iteration for Nintendo's new system would be the game to come after this month's Assassin's Creed Revelations.

Presuming that this new title will indeed be the next game in the series, there's a pretty strong case that it will hit Wii U some time next year.

That is, of course, unless Ubisoft decides to cancel Assassin's Creed for Nintendo's new system. But surely there's no precedent for that.
