Good news for hardcore Wii gamers, as Nintendo's ultimate brawler takes on the more casual competition to claim the title of Wii's greatest seller in 2008.
American sales group NPD have been kind enough to release the list of the top selling games of the year across all home consoles. Masahiro Sakurai's magnum opus that is Super Smash Bros: Brawl managed to fend off Mario Kart Wii as the platform's top selling game from January to August. Wii Play sneaked in at number three, keeping a fair pace ahead of Wii Fit, while Guitar Hero III rounded off the top five.
At 3.2 million units sold in the region, Brawl was also the most successful singular title of the year, edging out the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV, which sits just under the three million mark. Guitar Hero and Wii Fit also prove to be significantly successful considering their above average RRPs.
The top five Wii games accounted for a combined sell-through of between 11 and 12 million units.
