News: Brawl Launches In US To Disc Problems

Hotly anticipated Brawl launched yesterday in America, though problems with some Wii consoles playing the game have become apparent...

After months of feverish waiting and a couple of small delays, Smash Bros. Brawl has launched in the U.S. to midnight openings of stores across the country. There's just one snag - some Wii consoles are refusing to play the discs.

According to Nintendo, "a very small percentage" of Wii game consoles are having trouble reading the disc due to the fact is is double-layered to fit more memory on. The Nintendo of America have stated:

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)"

To any of our American readers (and we know there's a fair proportion of you out there), if you are having any issues, Nintendo have pledged to fix every problem for free - simply visit this page on Nintendo's site for information on the free repair service.
