News: Capcom Considering Downloadable Wii Content

Resident Evil creators are thinking of ways to bring new content to Wii owners.

New content on the Wii Shop Channel has been practically non-existent since the Wii launch, with only the Everybody Votes Channel and the Internet Channel being released, each within several months of each other. The apparent lack of new content from Nintendo's side has angered many fans who expected to receive new content from Nintendo, third parties and indie developers. Capcom aim to please, and if this statement is anything to go by, we'll be getting new content from them very shortly. Here is a quote from an interview with Christian Svensson, Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research for Capcom.

"There are some file size limitations that don't dovetail well with what we've currently got on PS3 and Xbox 360. I would love to put the content that we have on the Wii, and I think it's a great audience for the type of content, especially for Street Fighter and Puzzle Fighter. We're still thinking about ways that we can get that content to them, perhaps not downloaded, but perhaps with a consolidated retail SKU. We're still just tossing around ideas in our head."

Perhaps now would be a good time for Nintendo to release the rumoured external hard drive for the Wii then? The first downloadable content from the Wii Shop Channel will come in the form of the Commodore 64 classic Impossible Mission, which is set for a release in Summer 2007.
