News: Capcom Press Event 2004

Capcom have held their annual press event and announced a new marketing strategy.

Capcom held their annual press event yesterday in Las Vegas. The presidents of both the Japanese and American arms of the international publisher took the opportunity to outline a new international focus and aggressive plans to gain more marketshare throughout the world.

The Japanese president had this to say:

"The gaming industry has gotten larger and larger and so in order to be a true player we have to have a larger marketshare. We are shooting internally for a goal of 10 percent marketshare in all three regions."

"We intend to put all of our efforts and all of our energy into increasing our international marketshare."

Stirring stuff indeed, and with future games such as Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4 in the pipeline for the Gamecube, it's difficult not to have an optimistic outlook for the company for the next year. However, if Capcom truly do wish to gain significant ground in what is an unforgiving market, they may do well to stop producing original games such as Viewtiful Joe and re-invigorate the whole Resident Evil franchise and make it a cross format release.

However, I for one am glad to see that the Gamecube is still a platform for innovation and is well supported by one of the great stalwarts of the industry.
