Due for release on September 13, 2002 the title will receive the backing of a high profile and wide ranging through the line campaign.
Throughout European territories above the line support will include TV spots, outdoor media and print advertising in both specialist gaming and consumer publications. All executions have been created by a leading worldwide agency, Odiorne Wilde Narraway & Partners. The title will also be backed by a major online campaign that includes direct e-mailings to hundreds of thousands of Resident Evil fans, dedicated web sites, and a viral campaign that leads those interested to a clever spoof site at: www.adultsgetscaredtoo.com where they can interact with the advertising proposition to a much deeper level. The campaign will commence approximately four weeks prior to launch and run for two months after the game's release.
The advertising of Resident Evil has long been a talking shop in the European market since the first campaign aired in 1996. The notorious "Bloodbath" campaign drew equal amounts of praise and criticism, but ultimately helped to make the brand famous. These days the advertising creative has evolved and now seeks to examine the psychological effects of horror more than the literal interpretation of it, as in the past. The advertising of Resident Evil was deemed so iconic by the curators behind the GAME ON exhibition at London's Barbican gallery (an international exhibition of the history of videogames that is currently running in London and will then tour the world), that they commissioned an exhibit that explores the history behind this great games brand.
An extensive pan-European public relations campaign has been running in the games press over a number of months building anticipation for this eagerly awaited title. As the release date draws closer PR will shift to targeting a more mainstream audience via lifestyle and consumer media. Resident Evil is also being heavily supported at retail with dedicated shop front windows, end caps and an assorted range of point of sale.
"When Resident Evil was first released it was a groundbreaking title and gave birth to the survival horror genre, " commented David Miller, Marketing Director, Capcom Eurosoft. "Now, some six years later Shinji Mikami, the creative force behind the series, has once again taken control to re-invent his original masterpiece."
State of the art technology takes the series to a whole new level thanks to the most stunning graphics of any game created. Motion-captured animation and richly detailed graphics, such as rooms that illuminate with real time lightning from a thunder storm and windows that show reflections and shadows, truly make this Resident Evil come alive.
A secluded mansion in Raccoon City has been the centre of top secret biotech experiments funded by a mysterious corporation known only as Umbrella. When contact with the scientists at the mansion is broken and reports of gory attacks come in from nearby areas two Special Tactics and Rescue Squads (S.T.A.R.S.), comprising of Bravo and Alpha teams are sent to investigate. Bravo team vanishes almost immediately with Alpha team being chased into the foreboding mansion by a pack of monstrous creatures.
Taking control of sharp shooting Alpha team member Chris Redfield or demolitions expert Jill Valentine, players of Resident Evil embark on a horrific quest through the dark and mysterious mansion filled with acid spitting zombies, giant spiders, mutant dogs and other equally deformed creatures. Thankfully a number of items can be claimed throughout the adventure from weapons such as shotguns, pistols, knives and bazookas to defeat the grizzly hordes along with medicine to heal any wounds and maps to provide a guide through the myriad of corridors.
David Gosen, Managing Director, Nintendo of Europe comments:
"It is fantastic news for Nintendo fans that Capcom are exclusively committing the Resident Evil series to the NINTENDO GAMECUBE. This shows that the GameCube is the console of choice for everyone."
A two disk title, Resident Evil on Nintendo GameCube is due to be released on September 13 with an SRP of 44.99
