Sega have announced that they will be releasing a Captain America game to coincide with the upcoming feature film.
With Captain America getting the cinematic next year it should come as no surprise that a game is in the works for numerous consoles, including the Nintendo Wii and DS. Developers Next Level (who developed Punch-Out on the Wii) will be working on the title that sees Captain America return to his WWII roots.
Captain America: Super Solider will be set during World War II and will see the star-spangled superhero fighting his enemy Red Skull who is a Nazi agent. The game will take place in a large castle complex packed with enemies from the comic book such as Iron Cross and the terrorist group HYDRA.
"Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel's iconic Super Hero Captain America," said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. "Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America's legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we're delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it's a partnership we're proud of here at SEGA."
The game will feature hand-to-hand combat utilising the hero's strength and indestructible shield as well as platforming. Christos Gage, who has worked on numerous super hero titles such as The Avengers, X-Men and Captain America, will be writing the script. Not much else is known about the game at the moment but expect more news before its 2011 release.
