Analysis
I need to find a new source for Japanese release dates. DOAX and Armored Core 3 slipped through my clumsy little fingers. Anyway, their positions don't surprise me, expect Armored Core 3 to stay in the charts a while, it's a popular series and critics have been saying that this new entry into the series is the best so far. DOAX, while I'm not surprised to see it sell so well, hasn't pushed up the hardware sales of the Xbox that much. If the hardware doesn't shift more quickly, DOAX is going to run out of Xbox owners to sell itself to.
A lot of new releases this week then, but with the Pokemon games still selling steadily, regaining the top spots isn't out of the question in the future, mostly depending on Armored Core 3 and any new releases I choose to not realise are out. Speaking of which, Devil May Cry 2 appears to have a release date of Jan 30, unless I'm missing something, it will make a huge impact on the charts.
Many drops in the hardware sales this week, with only the Xbox rising in sales thanks to DOAX. The GBA has suffered a huge drop, probably as a result of the big new releases on the home consoles. Predictions for next week, apart from the obvious DMC2, include Winning Eleven Final Edition, as Konami's ridiculously popular football game hits the GameCube (hopefully in a better form than ISS2) and House Of The Dead 3 on the Xbox. With so many teenage Japanese boys buying Xboxs for DOAX, I'm hoping they will also notice the latest game in Sega's classic light gun franchise, it's been doing pretty well in the arcades, so hopefully the console port can recreate it's success.
