News: Chrono Trigger DS Roundup

With Chrono Trigger DS officially announced, what do we know about it?

The news took the gaming community by storm: Chrono Trigger will be making its way to the DS. After years of hoping for the game to make any sort of appearance after the port included in the Playstation Final Fantasy Chronicles, which, just like the original SNES version never reached PAL lands, it has finally came true.

With only a doubtful magazine scan, people were cautious, after all, the internet is rumour-filled. Later, an official website opened or was discovered, putting doubts to rest. It was coming.

Square-Enix was quick to release a press release, explaining that the DS Chrono Trigger will be a remastered version of the original, maintaining all the elements that made the game what it is but adding portability, "dual screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality" a brand new dungeon and a wireless play mode.

It's safe to assume that the game will be a port of the Final Fantasy Chronicles version with the aforementioned added DS functionality and possibly some tweaks. Whether it'll share the PlayStation version extras like the anime cutscenes drawn by the legendary Akira Toriyama, a bestiary, artwork and some modifications in the translation it's still unknown.

The game will be released in USA this holiday season, with no date for Europe yet, though it's likely that this old continent will finally get Chrono Trigger.
