News: Commodore 64 & N64 Titles Hit VC

A new console has been added to the European Virtual Console service in addition to a new Nintendo 64 title!

It's the moment we've all been waiting for (or have we?) as the Commodore 64 has finally been added to the European Wii Shop Channel along with two games - Uridium and International Karate. But that's not all, as these new (or rather, old) titles have been accompanied by a new Nintendo 64 title, Cruis'n USA.

For those of you who don't know, the Commodore 64 is an 8-bit home computer which racked 30 million units in sales, making it the best-selling PC of all time. In addition to that, it was also a brilliant little gaming machine with almost 10,000 games to its name. Its sound and graphical capabilities remained unrivalled for many years, and even today the system is used to make new software by enthusiasts.

Uridium (500 Wii Points) is a sci-fi horizontal scrolling shooter originally released in 1986. Your enemies, Super-Dreadnoughts, are currently harvesting mineral resources from planetary cores for their own nefarious uses, and you alone must travel the universe to stop these dastardly diggers.

International Karate (500 Wii Points) is the Virtual Console's second C64 title. Released in 1986, International Karate is a one on one beat-'em-up which bears a strong likeness to Street Fighter. However, instead of straight up fighting all the way through, the levels are broken up by minigames which involve you bashing your head against consecutive planks of wood. Ouch.

And now we move on to Cruis'n USA (1000 Wii Points), a Nintendo 64 title which recently saw a devastating Midway remake on the Wii, which seemed to downgrade the original gameplay whilst hanging on to the original graphics. Basically, it's a racing game set in America, and you have to beat your opponents (shock horror).

Stick around for Sam's reviews of these titles in the next edition of VC Weekly.
