News: Companies Bought and Sued

Empire and SCi have both signed deals which will increase their profits, and Interplay have had to pull out of their Vivendi deal.

Pivotal Studios has been brought by SCi following Kaboom Studios collapse earlier this month. SCi have bought the 90% of Pivotal Studios they didnt own from Ernst & Young for �2.36million.

Pivotal Studios will be employed as an independent studio by SCi, who will make sure that Pivotal Studios keep up their standard of work.

Empire Interactive announced their first half profits for 2003 to be �15.7 million, a rise of forty percent in the same period last year.

"We now have an exciting portfolio of games and IP that we strive constantly to improve," according to Ian Higgins, CEO of Empire Interactive. "We are working with some excellent development studios, both in-house and third party, and continue to partner with the best distribution companies to ensure every facet of the production process, from initial concept to sales, is as good as it can be."

Interplay has officially ended their deal with Vivendi Universal Games which has been closed due to a lack of payment over royalties. The original article on the subject can be found on Cube-Europe.
