Taito announces Cooking Mama, a game where you cook food, and lots of it!

The number of genres the DS can create has grown once again, with the announcement of a cooking sim headed straight for the Nintendo handheld. Dubbed Cooking Mama, this intriguing game is being developed by Taito, and looks to set alight a new genre: Cooking Sims.

Cooking Mama will allow the player to put their cooking prowess to real-world recipes, such as fried eggs and hopefully, cake. The touch-screen will feature prominently in this game, as you mix ingredients, chop greens and stir noodles using only a stylus and a smile. The layout of your food on your plate will also be controllable, so make sure you don't put your freshly baked muffin on top of a pancake.

Cooking Mama is set for a Japanese release on the 23rd of March this year, with no word on a European release. For a first look at the game, check out these scans courtesy of Famitsu.
