According to Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata developers around the world are more interested in the 3DS than they were with the original DS.
When the DS was released six years ago Nintendo themselves were unsure whether it would be successful or not. Of course we now know it has been much bigger than anyone ever anticipated and Nintendo are hoping to replicate that success with the 3DS.
Computer and Video Games have quoted Satoru Iwata as saying that developer interest for the 3DS has been greater than it was when they were preparing for the launch of the DS. Developers in both Japan and abroad are really excited by the prospects the 3D handheld offers.
"To say the least, our overseas publishers are not taking a passive approach to Nintendo 3DS at all. In fact, it is safe for you to think that they have been fairly proactive in thinking about this new hardware from the start."
It is not just developers who are interested. Nintendo has received interest from several Hollywood studios about the handheld's ability to play 3D films without the need for glasses. When Nintendo unveiled the handheld at E3 they announce that Disney, Dreamworks and Warner Bros. were all interested in distributing 3D films via the handheld but it seems even more studios are now interested.
"When it comes to the opportunity for them to be able to show 3D movies, however, people in Hollywood currently do not believe that 3D television sets will be able to spread into ordinary households with rapid speed. I have the impression that they see Nintendo 3DS as a strong candidate to become the very first 3D device to be able to spread into the mass market in massive volumes."
With the release of the 3DS now less than six months away we will no doubt hear a lot more about exactly what developers, and movie studios, have in store for it.
