"The current generation of football games has no focus on the player. The game itself is the spectacle. This is a problem. It is the player's experience that is the key to creating a game that is accessible, playable, and has long-term appeal to players. If you can create an experience that satisfies the player each and every time he plays the game, then you have created a classic," said Dini.
The co-operation between Dino Dini and DC Studios wasn't exactly surprising. Managing director of DC Studios, Mark Greenshields, has a history which touched that of Dini on quite some points. Greenshields worked on a number of Kick Off (which was originally developed by Dini) sequels, including Kick Off 2 and Super Kick Off.
Greenshield told the press that "Dino and I had some long discussions last year, and it was a revelation, as we found we both agreed on almost every level about what could be done to create a football game with a difference. The agreement between DC and Dino is very exciting, and we're looking forward to showing everyone the future of footballing video games."
Real information about the game itself wasn't given yet, however we did find a few words by Dini himself... In the late 90s an attempt to create a 3D version of another popular soccer game was made (Sensible Soccer, which was based on Dini's Kick Off). The attempt to translate the top down 2D gameplay of into 3D failed miserably.
"The team I am working with on the new project here has members of the original Soccer 2 team that I worked with for a year in Italy," said Dini on his own forum, "With regards to the game design, I have solved the problems. I would guess that the failure to turn sensible soccer into 3D is simply because there is a whole world of difference between having success through the copying of a proven design, and solving the design problems in the first place."
The currently unnamed soccer game is scheduled for a release on all major platforms: GameCube, PS2, XBox, PC, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and even a PSP version are planned. As far as we know, this is the first game ever to be released on all major platforms. It remained shrouded when the game will get an official announcement including the full title and release term.
