News: Disney Interactive Posts Hefty Loss

The mega-publisher posts a reduced albeit substantial loss for the last fiscal year...

Disney Interactive Media Group has posted a net loss of $234 million for the fiscal year ending October 2nd. Gamasutra reports that the publishing giant saw revenues up by seven percent to $761 million, helping the company reduce its loss from the previous year by over 20%.

Still, the conglomerate seemed to remain upbeat despite the loss due to its ever-expanding media presence, having recently moved into the social gaming presence with growing names like Club Penguin and Playdom.

It's video game division, Disney Interactive Studios, has particularly diversified in recent years, not only publishing spin-offs of Disney's own licenses, but gobbling up studios that have put out edgier titles such as 2008's HD racer Pure. The company also benefits from its stable Kingdom Hearts venture with Square-Enix.

Disney Interactive will no doubt be looking to the much-hyped Epic Mickey to reel in the dough this Christmas.
