The house of the mouse will release special DVD and video game bundles.
Disney's catalogue manager James Thornby has stated that they "are continuously looking at ways to take Disney film lovers beyond the movie experience," and it seems that one of these new experiences will be DVD and video game box sets.
Disney Interactive Studio and the company's movie division has teamed up to create three bundle packages that sees the video games and films from some of their successful franchises being sold together. The company has announced three initial bundles to be released in the UK on June 27th.
The three bundles are based on the television series Phineas and Ferb, the Disney film Tangled and the Disney Pixar franchise Cars. DVDs of Tangled and Phineas and Ferb will be bundled with their Wii and DS video game counterparts respectively.
In anticipation of this summer's release of Cars 2, which will also be getting the video game treatment, Disney will release a box set that contains Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales for the Wii, Cars Toon on DVD and the original Cars film.
Speaking to MCV Mr. Thornby discusses how Disney are trying to allow kids and families to "immerse themselves" in the franchises by bringing them together in one package. He also comments on how they are trying to release games that enhance the experience of the film, citing the 'Toy Box' mode of Toy Story 3 as one example.
