News: Disney's Interactive Head of Games Leaves

Graham Hopper, who has served as the head of Disney Interactive's games department, has recently left the company.

It has recently been announced that Disney Interactive's Graham Hopper has left the company following a series of internal shake-ups. Mr. Hopper has served as the Head of Games for a long time and championed Epic Mickey, due for release in Europe tomorrow.

While many of the titles under his control failed to secure large sales, such as Split/Second and Ultimate Band, initial feedback for Epic Mickey appears to be positive. The title is one of Mr. Hopper's biggest bets after purchasing Warren Spector's company in 2007 and championing for its release.

The L.A. Times reports that Disney Interactive are shifting their focus from video game consoles to online gaming, which is why they recently purchased Facebook game producer Playdom and placed their chief executive, John Pleasants, as co-president of Disney Interactive.

"By putting John Pleasants in to run games, not only will he focus on turning those businesses into profitability, but diversifying our presence in the business, so we’re not reliant on one platform that’s obviously facing challenges. It’s our goal not only to be profitable, but obviously to get there by shifting our investment."
