It's been speculated that GameCube games may become available on Wii U as WiiWare downloads.

Nintendo of America executive, Amber McCollom, has recently stated that whilst GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, there is a possibility that they may become available as downloads.

You shouldn't get too excited though as it has yet to be officially confirmed by Nintendo. Did Amber McCollom let the information slip? Or was it simply a bad choice of words?

"GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, but a number of the games that were playable on GameCube can be downloaded from WiiWare."

It certainly seems as though downloadable GameCube games are going to appear on Wii U but until an official announcement is made you'd be best to clutch onto your discs and beloved purple cube that little bit longer.
