Less than five years later, Nintendo DS is Europe's best selling console ever...

If this story has a little deja vu about it, it's because less than a month ago, Nintendo DS achieved a similar feat. This time though, the console has conquered not just the UK, but the whole European continent.

After launching in March 2005, DS has shifted to consumers a total of over 40 million consoles, making it the best-selling console Europe has ever seen.

The Wii front is also looking mightily healthy, with Nintendo announcing over 20 million units have been sold in the region since its launch back in late 2006. On the software side, Wii Sports: Resort now resides in around 5 million homes, New Super Mario Bros. has sold around 2.5 million units since its Christmas launch, and combined region sales of Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus currently lie at 9.6 million.
