News: DS Lite Drops to $99 in USA

The DS Lite's price is getting even lighter in America.

The 3DS has been on sale for two months now and it seems Nintendo has decided it is finally time for the DS Lite to be dropped in price. Nintendo of America has announced today that the beloved DS Lite console, originally released in 2006, will be dropped in price to $99 as of the 5th of June.

Alongside the price drop six Mario titles will be repackaged in red-tinted boxes, making them easier to find. Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Party DS, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Super Mario 64 DS and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem will all be sporting a red box to match the iconic plumber's hat.

According to the head of Nintendo of America, fan favourite Reggie Fils-Aime, they hope to introduce the DS Lite to even more people with the new price point. The console has already surpassed sales records so it will be interesting to see just how much more it can sell at $99.
