Nintendo reports that things are going well with the Lite's launch in the US, and the DS in general!
With two of the America's top-selling games and a hot new look to the hardware, the global Nintendo DS phenomenon seems to be showing no sign of slowing down. Across the pond, the sublime New Super Mario Bros. and popular 'non-game' Brain Age held the first and third spots respectively for the best-selling games of May.
After going on sale May 15, New Super Mario Bros. sold at a nonstop rate of roughly one every four seconds nationwide during the month. It took its place as the best-selling game of the month despite being in stores for just 13 days.
The DS Lite is reported to have sold 136,500 units in two days, with many retail outlets reporting sellouts. Compared to the 2003 launch of the GBA's re-design, the SP, and sales are up 12 percent. The launch of the handheld has also had a knock-on effect on game sales, with the amount of Brain Age sold tripling, and New Super Mario Bros. sales doubling over the previous week.
